a witness of a sunny day for a self-help-t(f)ool

installation, laser cut plexiglass

Group exhibition You're allowed to come back
Tinnenpot, Ghent, Belgium, 2024

along the work is text, a “user manual”

what to do with the mental mass. what laws apply to its movement. can you move it with the tools for body mass movement. the purpose of this tool is to initiate movement, to get out of the freeze state, pressure, discomfort. it is lightweight, in the size of a luggage, has handles and can be easily hung.

safety mesurements:
warm up
start simple
inspect your surroundings
use with care

  • when the initial need to create or find a tool is satisfied, it can be conveniently placed in an accessible location for use at any time, such as at the workplace
  • the fool has left the tools in a place that (for the fool) embodies the sense of escape. flies across half of the Europe, leaving the tools behind, instead of taking them where they might have been needed the most. a testimony for this escape, emphasizing the temporarity of it
  • the tools have ventured beyond their workplace – it’s a sunny day for both the tools and the fool. it’s a good day, a day for rest, a day-off. foolish to think that there will not be a new need for escape
