Acqua alta, 3 ° C
video installation (video projection on a projection screen)
Augsts ūdens, 3°C (Acqua alta, 3°C)
Vagonu hall, Vagonu street, Riga, Latvia, 2022
Group work and exhibition together as a “Young artists collective” with Paula Betija Antenišķe, Justīne Emīlija Brieze, Ivo Krieviņš and Grieta Vītoliņa
Our first group installation as a manefesto for our place in the art world. The collaborative work critiques common “pseudo-expert” exhibition displays, and draws parallels with the non-existent contemporary art museum of Latvia. The work is based on our chosen theme of water, referencing the saying “to be like a fish out of water”. Just as water is a basic human need, art is fundamental need for artists. The fish and water are the main motifs that we worked with, creating a performative video installation featuring semi-naked bodies endlessly trying to fit in and be immersed in the water. The work encapsulates a young artist's ever-changing experience, beccoming part of the art world.
